Can we be the best?
I hope you are enjoying our current series: Becoming… The Best Church in the World. If you have made it to our last couple Sundays at CrossRoads, you know that becoming the best church in the world is not about some arrogant notion that we are better than every other church. It’s an idea that comes from Seth Godin’s book, The Dip. If you haven’t checked it out, it’s a great read. In just 80 short pages (of a little book) Seth tells readers how to get out of a stagnant place in a job, relationship, life or – in our case – church.
Godin very simply writes that the way to get out of a dip is becoming the best in the world. As he fleshes this idea out, he tells readers the good news is that you don’t have to be the best in the world to everyone – just to the people you want to reach. This probably isn’t a revolutionary idea to most of you, but he said it in a way that really rang true for me. It let me stand back a little ways, take a look at our church and answer the question: “Can we be the best?” As I kept reading, the answer became a resounding “YES!”
Something very special…
See, we have something very special at CrossRoads: We are not a big church, we are a personal church. We are not a flashy church, we’re an authentic church. We don’t have a lot of money to spend, but we have rich lives we invest. And, we don’t have a Savior who fixes everything today, he gives us hope that carries us through life’s trials and prepares us for eternity.
As we work hard at becoming the best in the world, I’m going to do my best to be a better communicator. Many of you know I’m a fairly transparent person. Many of you, however, do not know my heart as well as I would like. So, I’m going to take a little more time to share here. This fall I want you to see into what makes me tick. I want you to hear the “why” behind the things we do and who I am as your pastor. I want you to know how the things we do helps us become the best church in the world!
